 Marcia W. Hemley, Ph.D, P.C.. is in full-time private practice at Associates in Psychology. She works with adults, couples, and families experiencing anxiety, depression, self-image problems, life transitions,and medical concerns. She has a special focus on helping people address problems in their personal and work relationships.
A large component of her practice is dedicated to counseling couples who want to examine and resolve recurrent relationship conflicts and strengthen weakened or ruptured connections. Dr. Hemley has an additional interest in working with the parents of adolescents and young adults with substance abuse problems and the spouses and family members of individuals with chronic illness and physical disability.
Dr. Hemley offers several on-going groups for people who want to make changes in their patterns of intimacy and in their relationships with partners, children, friends, and co-workers. For the past nine years, Dr. Hemley has also offered a 26 session therapy group for couples who see themselves as stuck in relationship-threatening patterns of behavior.
Dr. Hemley has an active, direct style combined with a change-focused orientation. She works intensively with each client to generate solutions and build upon strengths, integrating a variety of interpersonal, psychodynamic, cognitive/behavioral, and interactional approaches.
Dr. Hemley obtained her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University, as well as masters degrees in Rehabilitation and Counseling Psychology. She received post-doctoral training in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy in Montreal, Canada. Dr. Hemley has had affiliate privileges at the University of Vermont Medical Center and has been an adjunct faculty member of the University of Vermont Department of Psychology, where she provided
training and supervision to clinical psychology doctoral candidates. She continues to be involved in the supervision and training of local mental health practitioners. She has the distinction of being a member of the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology and is a certified group psychotherapist.
Dr. Hemley accepts most forms of mental health insurance and participates on the panels of many managed care companies.
Dr. Hemley is also authorized when in the State of Florida (https://flhealthsource.gov/telehealth/) to provide telehealth services to clients located in Vermont.
